The presence of Friars is limited to the House of philosophical studies for the temporary professed in Lusaka. The “Saint Bonaventure College”, founded here in 1991, is a formation centre for three Franciscan Families: the Order of Friars Minor, Conventuals and Capuchins. The Institute was inaugurated by the three Ministers General on the 27th June 1992 and that same year the Library of the Centre, which contains 35,000 volumes, especially of philosophical and Franciscan subjects, was founded. There are young Friars of the Vice-Province of Nairobi and of the Custodies of Mozambique and Zimbabwe in the Study House of Lusaka.

The ‘St. Bonaventure College’ expresses the common will of the three Franciscan Families to develop mutual collaboration in the establishment of the Franciscan charism in Africa and, at the same time, to give witness to an Africa always divided by inter- ethnic conflicts that it is possible to live and work together in respect for cultural diversity.
