JPIC ANIMATION PROGRAMS IN THE PROVINCE AND CHALLENGES

JPIC ANIMATION PROGRAMS IN THE PROVINCE

The office of JPIC in the Province has taken a step forward in carrying out its mandate of animation. Several activities have been taking place at Provincial level in order to form the friars to live and promote JPIC.

At local levels, the JPIC office has visited some fraternities in the Province such as those of Butimba and Ilemela in Tanzania, the Novitiate in Uganda, Kivumu in Rwanda, Dowa in Malawi and Langata in Kenya. The aim is to visit all the fraternities in our Province to share with the brothers about the values of being just and peaceful; to remind them that this set of values is not an extra obligation but is part of who we are as Franciscans. Every Friar is obliged to cultivate these values and put them into practice in daily life starting from within his immediate fraternity and then outside the fraternity in all his ministries. The main challenge arise from the fact that the Province does not have a  clear program with which to govern JPIC activities, and some Friars, having a poor understanding of JPIC, lack commitment and fail to collaborate with the JPIC country animators.
